Slavic Christmas Tree
Pine & Fir • Sosna & Jodła
Long long time ago people cut branches of Pine or Fir tree, hung them off of their ceilings and dressed them with apples, nuts, candles, beads and cookies. That branch or little top of the tree was treated as a symbol of unconditional life regeneration, and every piece that was put on it meant something.
Apples- symbol of health
Nuts- abundance and strength
Cookies- sweetness
Candles- protection from dark forces that lived in the forest
Beads- representation of family ties.
With time, the branches were replaced with whole trees, apples with round red ornaments, candles with lights, and nuts with other decorations.
In many traditions even today, Pine trees represent wisdom, longevity and peace. Fir trees stand for determination, honesty and hopes for the future.
The scent of these trees can put the mind to rest and bring calmness. You cannot go to the woods and not feel these magical giants helping you to surrender your worries and be transported to magic.
